Year 5

5RT have been investigating the effects of air resistance by answering the scientific question :

'How does canopy size affect a parachute's rate of descent?'  They had fun measuring and making the parachutes and then letting them descend from a balcony.  They observed how the parachute's canopy opened as it fell to the ground.  Children used a stopwatch to measure the time it took in seconds to reach the floor.  The investigation required them to think about fair testing, recording and interpreting results.  Many children continued their own discussions and were keen to continue their learning when they got home by making their own parachutes.
